The Institute of Population Health recently established by the University of Ottawa is seeking applications for Senior and Junior Research Chairs and Postdoctoral Research Fellows. The Institute involves investigators from seven faculties within the University of Ottawa: Administration, Engineering, Health Sciences, Law, Medicine, Science, and Social Sciences. The Institute will carry out a transdisciplinary academic program of research and training in Equity studies, and will serve as a resource to the public, consumers, clinicians, government and industry. Strategic research priorities in Equity include [i] modelling of the burden of illness by socio-economic class, [ii]collation of the evidence for the impact including the cost-effectiveness, of educational, health, legal and social interventions upon health inequalities, and [iii]the development and testing of approaches to dissemination, diffusion and implementation of knowledge-transfer of evidence based interventions to different recipient groups including consumers, the general public, the media, clinicians and policymakers. Subpopulations of special interest include relevant populations in developing countries, aboriginal populations, and the homeless. Positions are available at the ranks of Post-doctoral Research Fellows, Junior and Senior Chairs. Fellows are appointed for a one year period, renewable once. Applications should be within five years of their doctoral degree in a relevant discipline, and have demonstrated research potential in their area of expertise. Junior /Senior Research Chairs will undertake a five/seven year program of research in Equity focusing on the strategic objectives of the Institute Applicants should have appropriate postdoctoral experience in a relevant discipline, and demonstrated success as a research scientist. Junior and Senior Chairs will be appointed as Research Scientists within the Institute, and will hold an academic appointment in an appropriate department within one of the seven participating faculties. Financial support available for these: Junior Chair -$100,000/yr X 5yrs renewable plus 100,000 start up; Senior Chair - $200,000/yr x 7 years renewable plus 150,000 start-up.
